Markham toddler found unconscious in family pool

An 18-month-old boy is clinging to life after he was found lying face down in his family's backyard pool yesterday.York police said the Markham toddler managed to get out the back door of the home and crawl toward the pool. It wasn't until his father went out to look for him that he found him unconscious in the in-ground swimming pool about 12:30 p.m.

Faulty machine shuts down Oshawa tattoo parlour

An Oshawa tattoo parlour has been temporarily shut down by the Durham Region Health Department because of a malfunctioning sterilizing machine. All clients of Longhorn Custom Bodyart on Centre Street North who received service from Nov. 17, 2006, to Aug. 1, 2007, are asked to check in with the health department to ensure they haven't been exposed to non-sterile equipment, which could lead to the transmission of hepatitis B and C and HIV.

Victim stabbed in early-morning brawl

A Toronto stabbing victim was in critical condition yesterday after an early-morning brawl near Trinity-Bellwoods Park saw three people taken into police custody.Police say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. yesterday, but would not confirm any other details, other than that they expect to charge the trio with aggravated assault this morning when they appear in court.

Fire strikes prestigious golf course

Golfer Shawn McCann tees off on the 14th hole at the Oakville Executive Golf Course yesterday, the burned-out clubhouse behind him. The fire department was called to the course at 2:30 a.m., but by the time they arrived the clubhouse was engulfed in flames. Halton police have said the fire was deliberately set. There were no injuries, but damage is estimated at $500,000.
