Although Michael Warren's analysis of the failings of Toronto's transit system (Why, And How, We Should Rebuild The TTC, online, Aug. 10) are both timely and perceptive, he repeats an oft-cited canard: that the city, in lobbying for increased funding of its transit system, is asking for the tax dollars of people who don't live there. In fact, Toronto is asking to slightly reduce the disparity between what its citizens pay in taxes and what they receive in services - to send marginally less money to the rest of Ontario and Canada. According to repeated studies by a diverse set of organizations, that disparity is in the billions every year. (Globe Insider subscribers only)
