A Toronto Police officer who faces charges in the drug-squad scandal was yesterday spared jail in an Orangeville case after prosecutors dropped sex assault, beating, weapons and drugs charges as part of a plea deal.

An 18-year-old motorist driving near Highway 400 north of Toronto Thursday afternoon went through a radar trap that clocked him travelling almost 100 kilometres an hour above the posted speed limit, police said. If convicted, he could lose his driver's licence and face more than $1,200 in fines. Under legislation that takes effect Sept. 30, Ontario police will be able to automatically suspend licences and seize the cars of drivers caught travelling 50 km/h or more above the speed limit.

Toronto police have posted a cellphone voice message on YouTube in which a homicide victim seems to identify his killer just before he was shot. The recording captured an altercation between Munit Walia and someone he calls ''Blanks'' as the victim waited in his car for his girlfriend outside a townhouse complex in the Martin Grove Road and Finch Avenue West area on July 30.
