Public housing boss vows to release report

The head of the city's public housing agency says the final results of an investigation into allegations of bribery centring on two employees will be made public.''We've made that commitment,'' Derek Ballantyne, chief executive officer of Toronto Community Housing Corp., said in an interview yesterday. ''The commitment is to report the findings in the investigation at such time as it is concluded or at such time the work of the Toronto Police Services is concluded.''

Miller tries to persuade residents to back new taxes

From his city website, Mayor David Miller yesterday fired the first volley in his fall campaign to win public support for two new city taxes.In a letter addressed to ''fellow Torontonians,'' Mr. Miller issued 15 pages of information about the city's fiscal plight - and the need for new revenues to pay for ''the kind of Toronto I want to build and the kind of city you voted for when you re-elected me last November.''

Since hanging up his spurs at city hall last year, ex-budget chief David Soknacki has dabbled in the occasional commentary about goings-on at his old stomping ground.For his latest missive, an op-ed article for Toronto Community News on Mayor David Miller's call for new taxes, Mr. Soknacki wound up in the city's newly formed doghouse. Those who write or say anything that runs afoul of the city's messaging on its fiscal woes, such as disobedient curs like Mr. Soknacki, now get smacked with an official city press release.
