Just as you need to step outside the city to view the sparkly sky, you'll need to leave Toronto on Tuesday to see Stars, the Montreal-based indie band that plays a small, snug club up the road in Waterloo. There - at the Starlight Lounge, appropriately enough - fans get a special sneak preview of the much-anticipated In Our Bedroom After the War, the band's fourth (and possibly breakthrough) album, out Sept. 25.

Opening the mail has become an anxious experience ever since police warned the public about a pair of firebomb packages delivered to Toronto addresses. Police in Toronto and Halton Region say they've had an explosion in the number of calls for suspicious parcels in recent weeks, including a Toronto office building that was evacuated because a former employee sent company materials back by courier, and a Georgetown woman who went to the local police station with a suspicious box that, upon examination, turned out to be a teapot.

A seven-year-old girl is dead after she was struck by a van while riding her bike yesterday.Toronto police say a 41-year-old man was driving along Bay Mills Boulevard in the Warden Avenue and Sheppard Avenue area in the city's east end about 12:45 p.m. when he let a boy cross the street at a crosswalk before proceeding.
