Hospital sued over crippling superbug

A young man training to become a chef is suing a Toronto hospital, claiming inadequate isolation and infection-control procedures caused him to catch a superbug, permanently disabling him.Matthew Rash, 30, said he tested negative for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) when he was admitted to Bridgepoint Hospital almost four years ago. He was sent there for rehabilitation after undergoing surgery at another hospital for injuries, including a broken left leg, fractured right foot and ankle, which were the result of a car crash.

Solo Mobile ditches billboard with Nazi death camp reference

A dozen Solo Mobile billboards featuring a punk-rock-era reference to a Nazi death camp have been taken down.The ads, located in subway stations in Toronto and Vancouver, feature a young urban Japanese woman in punk attire. One of the buttons she's wearing reads, ''Belsen was a Gas.''

Laneway is named in honour of candidate

The name of an iconic Torontonian known best as a busker and mayoral candidate will live on in a downtown neighbourhood.City council passed a motion this week to name a laneway near Danforth and Jones Avenues Ben Kerr Lane, in memory of the man known most for his guitar serenades of passersby at Yonge and Bloor Streets.
