Homes built to save on power

Eighteen Toronto-area home builders have signed on to a new energy-efficiency program aimed at complementing the existing Energy Star and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design programs.The Build for Savings program promotes cost-effective upgrades that have proven conservation results, such as Energy Star appliances, variable-speed furnace motors and energy-efficient lighting.

One of the largest builders of custom homes in Oakville and Mississauga is set to launch an ultra-luxury condominium in downtown Oakville.Legend Homes, with its partner, CreekBank Developments, will hold a preview event next Saturday at 10 a.m. for the Coventry, a collection of a dozen suites in a four-storey condominium at Church and Dunn streets. Prices range from $1.8-million to $3-million.

Grandview Homes is building a collection of detached, single-family houses in a quiet community in Woodstock, which is about 140 kilometres southwest of Toronto off Highway 401. The company is one of two builders in the development, which is situated just south of the Gordon Pittock Reservoir.
